Spectacular night-time lightning storm

I have just witnessed one of the most amazing lightning displays from the west coast of Ireland. Nature really stepped up to the mark on Thursday night as a cluster of severe storm cells estimated to be around 80 miles offshore lit up the night sky for over two hours. It's not often we get treated to a light show like this on this Island. Martin McKenna and i had met up on a day when major thunderstorms were forecast for the west and NW of Ireland with the possibility of supercells and tornadoes. After a long day of sky watching with little rewards we were delighted to see that first flash as darkness descended. This was the start of a memorable two hours where the lightning went from vague flashes within the cloud to multiple bolts and anvils crawlers that lit up the entire cloud structure and all this with stars shining above, it was unreal.
